For accounts on the new MoonClerk dashboard design. If you are on the classic dashboard, see how to change the card MoonClerk bills for your monthly usage.
MoonClerk charges your primary payment method for your monthly subscription. A backup payment method is only charged if a charge to your primary fails, so your account and your payers' recurring plans keep running without interruption.
1) Click on the Account drop down menu at the top right and choose Settings.
2) Click on Billing Payment Methods. (You can also get there from the Invoices page by clicking Payment Methods, or by clicking Add a backup on the dashboard banner when it appears. See where to change your account settings for a tour of the Settings page.)
3) The Payment Methods page shows your primary card and your backup. Click the Add a Backup button.
4) Enter the card number, expiration date, security code, country, and ZIP code, then click the Save Backup button.
5) Your backup now appears under Backup. From here you can click Make Primary to swap the two cards (the old primary is kept as the backup), Replace to enter a different backup card, or Remove Backup to delete it.
What happens when your primary card fails
If a subscription charge to your primary card is declined, MoonClerk charges your backup right away and emails you with the details: which card was declined, the payment it covered (amount and date), and which backup card was charged instead. Your account and your payers' plans are unaffected. Update your primary from the Payment Methods page so your next payment goes through without needing the backup.
Good to know
A backup is optional, but we recommend one if your primary card is close to its expiration date. If your primary card has expired or is about to, the dashboard shows an Update your card banner — click it to replace the card, or add a backup from the same banner.
Backups are credit or debit cards for now; bank accounts are not offered as a backup yet. Only the account Owner and Admins can view or change payment methods. The backup is never charged while your primary works, and it is never used to charge your payers — it only covers your MoonClerk subscription.
